DALLAS -- The NBA trading deadline is Thursday at 2 p.m. It's a stressful time for players -- but not so for coaches.
"I don't even know when the trading deadline is,'' Dallas Mavericks coach Rick Carlisle said Wednesday. "In our league they don't trade coaches yet.
"They've done in baseball, and they may have done it in football.''
The Boston Celtics tried to include coach Doc Rivers in a trade with the Los Angeles Clippers last summer, but the NBA stepped in and wouldn't allow it.
When Carlisle was asked what he thought his trade value would be he said: "Depends on what you're talking about trading for. I wouldn't begin to want to ponder that question.
"Look, this is a business that's a dynamic business. You get into it as a player and as a coach knowing that trades are possible.''
The Mavs, of course, are beating the bushel and spending long hours on the phone doing their due diligence in regards to pursuing a viable trade. It is a very uncomfortable time of the year for players.
"If you're a veteran guy after awhile you realize, hey, you've just got to come in and do your job every day and keep yourself ready and be about all the right things and you won't get traded,'' Carlisle said. "That's usually how it goes.''
