DALLAS -- Dirk Nowitzki was leaning heavily towards going to college at Kentucky in 1998 had he not entered the NBA Draft.
But the talented forward from Germany also visited Stanford and California.
"Stanford, I'm not sure if I would have made it with my grades, though,'' Nowitzki said after Monday's practice. "I would have tried.
"Maybe they would have cheated for me a little bit.''
Nowitzki, of course, was laughing when he made that last remark.
But if Nowitzki wouldn't have gone to Kentucky or Stanford, what about Cal?
"I visited Cal,'' Nowitzki said. "They would have pulled some strings.''
Told that former Mavs teammate Jason Kidd managed to get into Cal, Nowitzki laughed and said: "Exactly. That’s my point.''
Nowitzki, of couse, ditched ideas about attending college and was the No. 9 overall pick of the 1998 NBA Draft.
