DALLAS -- So much for any possible sweep of this eight-game home stand.
Kevin Love scored 35 points and the Minnesota Timberwolves defeated the Dallas Mavericks 123-122 in overtime Wednesday night at American Airlines Center.
The Mavs (41-28) are now 1-1 on this franchise-record eight-game home stand which resumes Friday against the Denver Nuggets. Meanwhile, the Timberwolves improved to 34-32.
Love flipped in a 10-footer with 17.1 seconds left for the game-winning basket. He then played tough defense on Dirk Nowitzki, who missed a 20-footer at the buzzer.
Nowitzki led the Mavs with 27 points, but was only 11-of-27 from the field. Also for Dallas, Monta Ellis collected 22 points and six assists, Shawn Marion had 16 points and 11 rebounds, Vince Carter fouled out with 14 points, Devin Harris scored 13, and Jose Calderon contributed 12 points..
Besides Love, the Timberwolves got 19 points from Kevin Martin. Meanwhile, Ricky Rubio finished with a triple-double -- 22 points, 10 rebounds and 15 assists.
A pair of free throws by Rubio with 50.1 seconds left in regulation tied the game at 113-apiece and sent it into overtime. From there, the Mavs led 118-113 after a bucket by Nowitzki and a 3-pointer by Ellis.
But the Timberwolves finished the game on a 10-4 run and also won the season series from the Mavs, 3-1.
Minnesota built a 46-24 lead with 10:21 left in the second quarter and were still ahead -- and laughing -- 50-28 with 8:07 remaining before halftime. But the Mavs used a 24-5 run over the ensuing five minutes and 14 seconds to get within 55-52 of the Timberwolves with 2:53 left in the first half.
The only other overitme the Mavs have played this season occurred when they lost at home to Toronto 109-108 on Dec. 20.
