DALLAS -- The point man on Vince Carter's game-winning 3-pointer was Jose Calderon.
With 1.7 seconds left Saturday and the Dallas Mavericks trailing the San Antonio Spurs by two points, Calderon was the player who tossed the inbound pass to Carter. A few anxious moments later, Carter drained a 3-pointer at the buzzer and the Mavs escaped the American Airlines Center with a pulsating 109-108 triumph over the Spurs.
Both the Mavs and Spurs called timeout before Calderon delivered his game-winning assist to Carter. Afterwards, bedlam ensued as the Mavs prevailed 109-108 and took a 2-1 lead in this best-of-seven series.
"It was great at the end,'' said Calderon, who tallied 16 points and distributed nine assists. "Sometimes you need something like that.
"I think we were fighting so hard for 48 minutes against a really good team. Coming up with that great shot at the end -- it feels great.''
Game 4 will be back here Monday at 8:30 p.m., and Game 5 is Wednesday in San Antonio at 6 p.m.
