SAN ANTONIO – Dallas Mavericks forward Vince Carter is confident teammate Dirk Nowitzki will break out of his shooting slump real soon.
“He wants to win, he beats himself up over it,’’ Carter said. “But at the same time he’s Top 10 all-time.
“He’ll play through it. He’ll be fine.’’
Nowitzki is just 25-of-65 from the field for 38.5 percent in the first four games of this best-of-seven series against the San Antonio Spurs. But Carter is convinced that Nowitzki’s woes can’t just be contributed to what Nowitzki is or isn’t doing on the court.
“I think, as his teammates, we just have to continue to hit shots,’’ Carter said. “There was a stretch (in Game 4) where we weren’t hitting shots, which made it tougher for him because now they just leave whoever was open and just stay attached to him.
“As we started to hit shots it started to free him up a little more. We just have to continue to play with confidence, continue to move the ball and things will work out.’’
The Mavs and Spurs are tied 2-2 in their best-of-seven series which resumes Wednesday at 6 at the AT&TCenter.
