DALLAS -- Vince Carter drilled an amazing 3-point shot from the left corner at the buzzer as the Dallas Mavericks shocked the San Antonio Spurs, 109-108, on Saturday afternoon in Game 3 of a first-round playoff series.
The Mavs now lead this best-of-seven series 2-1.
Game 4 is back here on Monday at 8:30 p.m., and Game 5 is Wednesday in San Antonio at 6 p.m.
Manu Ginobili scored on a driving layup with 1.7 seconds remaining to give the Spurs a 108-106 lead with just 1.7 seconds to go. The Mavs called timeout, and Jose Calderon, who inbounded the ball, found Carter in the left corner in front of Ginobili and he swished it through the net as the buzzer sounded.
The referees reviewed the play. But it was clear that Carter released his shot in time.
Monta Ellis had tied the game at 106-106 when he flipped in a drive over the outstretched arms of Tim Duncan with 24.2 seconds remaining. The Spurs then called timeout, and when the ball was brought inbounds, no one touched it but Ginobili.
But the Mavs answered swiftly as Carter's buzzer-beater had fans jumping in ther seats.
Ellis led the Mavs with 29 points, Dirk Nowitkzi scored 18, Calderon finished with 16 points and nine assists, Samuel Dalembert had 13 points, 10 rebounds and four blocks, and Carter wound up with 11 points.
Duncan led the Spurs with 22 points, Tony Parker had 19 points and six assists, Kawhi Leonard scored 17, and Ginobili had 12.
