MEMPHIS -- The emotions and intensity which Wednesday night's against the Memphis Grizzlies were played with is what the Dallas Mavericks expect when they start the playoffs Sunday at noon on the road against the San Antonio Spurs.
"That was playoff intensity,'' forward Dirk Nowitzki said after the Mavs lost to the Grizzlies, 106-105 in overtime, in the regular season finale at the FexEd Forum. "It was a fun game to be a part of.
"It went back-and-forth. It was a fun game all the way down the stretch.''
All the way, until, of course, the Mavs couldn't get the key basket or key defensive stop which would have helped them finish the season with 50 wins.
Mike Conley hit a pair of free throws with 1.1 seconds left to put Memphis up by one point. Then after three timeouts by the Mavs, Monta Ellis missed a wide open 21-footer at the buzzer.
"We had enough chances,'' said Nowitzki, who scored 30 points on 12-of-22 shots and in 46 grueling minutes. "We had a good look there with Monta Ellis coming uo with a second to go.
"It could have gone either way down the stretch.''
