DALLAS – Catching the San Antonio Spurs without Tony Parker is a huge break for the Dallas Mavericks.
But the Mavs don’t want to go into tonight’s game against the Spurs thinking that just because Parker isn't playing, that’s going to guaranteed them a victory.
“They’re not as good, obviously (without Parker), because he’s a great player,’’ coach Rick Carlisle said after Thursday morning’s shootaround. “But they still win a ton of games when he misses.
“The thing you can’t do is look at the guys that step in for him and say these guys aren’t capable, because they prove time and time again that they are.’’
Cory Joseph will start in Parker’s place in tonight’s game -- which starts at 7 at American Airlines Center -- with Patty Mills as his primary backup.
“Both Joseph and Mills play extremely hard and they play to their strengths extremely well,’’ Carlisle said. “So it’s a hard game, regardless.’’
Guard Devin Harris is definitely preparing as if Joseph and Mills are going to be just as difficult to contain as Parker.
“No Tony Parker, they’re just as dangerous a team,’’ Harris said. “They’ve shown that they can play without their Big 3 (of Tim Duncan, Manu Ginobili and Parker) and still get victories.
“So I think they’re still dangerous. And they’re still going to present a tough task for us, but we’ve got to feel like we are desperate.’’
