ARLINGTON – Not long after Phil Jackson recently became the president of the New York Knicks, Steve Kerr was mentioned as possibly becoming the next coach of the Knicks.
Jim Nantz, in town as the play-by-play voice for his 24th straight Final Four, can clearly understand why someone would want Kerr as their head coach.
“Hanging around Steve at the last three Final Four’s, I can see why he would be a guy that I would entrust to be on the bench if I owned an NBA team or if I was the president of an NBA team making the call on that,’’ Nantz said. “First off, people like him, people listen to him, he’s a super smart guy and I think there’s such a high level of respect.
“He’s a guy that wears his integrity really well.’’
An analyst for the Final Four, Kerr has never been an NBA head coach or an assistant coach. Nantz, however, doesn’t believe that should be a stumbling block.
“If that’s what he wants to do, I would hate to see him go,’’ Nantz said. “But man, I would wish him well and I would become an instant fan of everything that he would be doing. I hope it’s not true -- selfishly.’’
