DALLAS – Shawn Marion’s career with the Dallas Mavericks could end Friday night when the Mavs host the San Antonio Spurs at 7 at American Airlines Center.
Marion is in the final year of a contract that pays him $9.3 million this season. And when Marion hits the free agent market on July 1, he’ll discover that because of his age there won’t be a lot of general managers lining up to pay him that kind of money.
Asked if he thought about the possibilities of Friday being his last game in a Mavs uniform, Marion said: “I’m not looking at that right now. We’ll talk about that when it’s done.’’
A 15-year veteran, Marion turns 36 years old on Wednesday.
Coach Rick Carlisle has said repeatedly this season that he hopes Marion returns and continues his career with the Mavs.
Dallas trails this best-of-seven series against the Spurs, 3-2.
