DALLAS -- It was not a perfect outing Friday for the Dallas Mavericks in their attempt to slam the door on the San Antonio Spurs' pick-n-roll play.
But the Mavs held the Spurs at bay long enough to capture an electrifying 113-111 victory to even this bets-of-sveen series at 3-3.
"We played better tonight,'' coach Rick Carlisle said of his team's pick-n-roll coverage. "Our recognition was better, our communication was better.
"If you have better communication it doesn;t matter what the coverage is, you're going to do a better job. I thought that was a bigger part of it.''
While mainly exploiting the Mavs' defense in Game 5 with their pick-n-roll offense, the Spurs outscored the Mavs in the paint 54-28. On Friday, the Mavs outscored the Spurs in the paint 50-48.
Game 7 will be played Sunday in San Antonio.
