Scott Pruett and Memo Rojas used a ninth-place finish in a backup car Sunday to clinch the Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series Daytona Prototype team championship. Oswaldo Negri Jr. claimed the race win however, holding off Max Angelelli by .459 seconds in the Supercar Life 250 at New Jersey Motorsports Park. Negri teamed with Mark Patterson in the No. 60 Ford Riley to earn Michael Shank Racing its second career victory.
Pruett's and Rojas' title in the No. 01 TELMEX Chip Ganassi Racing Lexus Riley came partly because the pair of Alex Gurney and Jon Fogarty finished fifth Sunday in their No. 99 GAINSCO/Bob Stallings Racing Pontiac Riley. That gave Pruett and Rojas a 38-point edge heading in the series finale Sept. 20 at Miller Motorsports Park in Utah. Teams may score a maximum 35 points at each event.
