Sprint Cup star Dale Earnhardt Jr. usually runs a limited Nationwide Series schedule and for the second time in as many seasons, he has decided to run the O'Reilly 300 on April 4 at Texas Motor Speedway. Earnhardt, who earned his first career Nationwide Series win at TMS in 1998, will drive the No. 5 Fastenal Chevy fielded by JR Motorsports. He finished seventh in this race last season. Earnhardt is scheduled to run only seven Nationwide races in 2009.
“The Junior Nation has a strong presence in Texas and I hope they take advantage of seeing Dale Jr. chasing victories in both the O’Reilly 300 and Samsung 500,’’ Texas Motor Speedway President Eddie Gossage said in a release. “We traditionally have a dozen or more Sprint Cup stars competing in the O’Reilly 300 and the addition of Dale Jr. adds even more luster to this prestigious Nationwide Series event.”
